Call for Editor-in-Chief for Fennia

Fennia – International Journal of Geography is seeking a new Editor-in-Chief to start in January 2016.

Fennia is one of the oldest geographical journals, published since 1889 by the Geographical Society of Finland. Biannual international peer-reviewed journal is dedicated to all fields of geography. The papers of high scholarly are published in three categories: Research Papers, Review Articles, and Data Descriptions. Fennia is OpenAccess journal with no registration or submission fee. The journal has very international readership and it aims to develop high-quality papers for the academic, professional and scientific audience worldwide.

The Editor-in-Chief is responsible for the contents of the journals. With close co-operation with the editorial board he/she has responsibility to call reviewers for the manuscripts and guest editors for the theme issues. For each submission, the Editor decides whether the manuscript can be sent to review, and is then responsible for selecting and recruiting referees, managing the revision, and making acceptance decisions. He/she will be cooperating with the Editorial Manager and in contact with the Geographical Society of Finland (the publisher) regarding the journal policy and finance. The new Editor-in-Chief will be in charge to form the new editorial board in 2016. He/she will receive a small compensation from the publisher.

The Editor-in-Chief is expected to work for and chart the journal’s future direction, as well as take a
part in planning and organizing special issues, conference-based lectures and other activities that will advance the journal’s position in the field of international publishing. Fennia has applied for indexing of Web of Science and has been accepted as member in COPE. In overall the journal has gone through many improvements in its content and status in international publishing, and the new Editor-in-Chief is expected to develop this further.

The current Editor-in-Chief, Dr. Paola Minoia will be responsible for the orientation that will take place from January to June 2016. To be eligible, candidates should hold a doctoral degree and preferably have positions in universities or research institutions. They must have authored articles in international journals and have peer reviewing experience. Other editorial experience in scientific journals is a plus.
